Our Story
In 1989, Nathaniel “Nic” East – an artist who wanted a change of pace from the city life moved from Philadelphia into a property that would later be known as The Flagstaff Lodge. He loved every medium and put all of his love, passion and talent into the home that he purchased. His obsession with post and beam architectural style is easily noticed as you walk through the modern day property. Alluring stained glass and metal works can be seen throughout The Flagstaff Lodge, all from the original owner. He lived in the property for 40 years before it was acquired in 2019. Since then, we have committed ourselves to creating a place that is not only a lodge but an experience which pays homage to Jim Thorpe and brings the elements from the outside in.
Immerse Yourself in Natural Beauty
Escape the hustle and bustle of New York & Philadelphia into the picturesque Pocono Mountains – the eighth wonder of the world. From the diverse wildlife to the gorgeous waterfalls, there’s a unique natural aspect everywhere. Serenity will define your stay as you feel immersed in several acres of unique beauty.
A Town Rooted in History
Located minutes from the small town of Jim Thorpe, PA, The Flagstaff Lodge is proud to be a part of living history. Formerly known as Mauch Chunk (bear place), modern day Jim Thorpe was founded as a company town by LC & N as a means to mine coal from the rich earth and ship it throughout the northeastern United States. The town quickly underwent massive growth, bringing in change for a variety of industries. Coal miners, steel workers, and lumberjacks established their roots here and began what would soon be a place where generations of amazing people would settle. As time passed, Jim Thorpe grew in size. By the end of the industrial revolution, the population was large and the town was bustling. With a wide variety of attractions, you will experience history like never before.
